In an effort to ensure the safety of all students, we are updating procedures in our buildings regarding volunteers and their contact with children other than their own. There are two levels of security that will be enforced depending on the amount of time a volunteer spends with children.
Volunteers who chaperone field trips or come in to school intermittently to work in a classroom will be screened through a background check with the Michigan State Police. Enclosed is the form that needs to be completed and sent back to school.
Volunteers who work regularly in our schools and are working with students in an unsupervised setting will be fingerprinted at the Sturgis Police Department, using the same fingerprinting system that is used for all of our school employees. It is important that you and your child’s teacher/principal work together in a timely manner so a fingerprinting appointment can be made ahead of time.
